Her skill is especially apparent in a scene where tragic news is broken by a character speaking in dialect we never lose sight of the emotion behind his words. The real king of the world, Leonardo DiCaprio, portrays Belfort. ![]() If you are looking for a Christmas morality tale, this isn’t it. The three-hour Martin Scorsese-directed epic based on Belfort’s life and bestselling book, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” premieres on December 25. “Once I scuba dived on four Quaaludes and passed out at the bottom of the ocean, you know, 60 feet under, and somehow made it up alive,” he recalled in a 2008 interview with a degree of both relish and self-loathing. Throw in a steady stream of salaciousness with stunning strippers and call girls, ungodly quantities of Quaaludes, cocaine and assorted excesses that rivaled Sodom and Gomorrah and you have something close to describing Jordan Belfort’s life. The real ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ on Leo DiCaprio’s portrayal In the 1990s, Jordan Belfort was already the self-proclaimed king of the world, raking in nearly a million dollars a week, all the while fashioning himself an ultra-hip, white Ferrari Testarossa-driving Don Johnson from Miami Vice. Jordan’s father, Chuck, sympathizes with his desire to go to art school and his position as a Black student in a majority white school, while his mother, Ellice, insists he must learn what’s necessary to succeed in a career.Īs the year progresses, Jordan takes classes, plays sports, and draws sketches. Overall this was a wonderful story about a young girl and her magical cat and the summer she spends hunting treasure with him. Books by Barbara Sleigh published by New York Review Books. My 11 year old son started to read this and stopped because he thought it was boring so this book would probably be better for younger kids or adults who enjoy charming kids stories. Still this was a great read and something I think kids and adults will both enjoy. There is some terminology in here that is a bit dated and I kind of had to use the surrounding context to figure out what some words meant. There’s a bit of a treasure hunt theme to this book and I enjoyed it a lot.
